About Us

In early 2004, the two most successful organizations serving the craft and hobby industry, the Hobby Industry Association (HIA) and the Association of Crafts & Creative Industries (ACCI), joined together to form the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA). CHA is now an international, not-for-profit trade association consisting of thousands of member companies engaged in the design, manufacture, distribution and retail sales of products in the nearly $30 billion U.S. craft and hobby industry.

CHA's vision, simply stated, is to create a vibrant industry with an exciting image, an expanding customer base and successful members. The goal is to stimulate the sales growth of the craft and hobby industry by creating consumer demand, helping members succeed and leading the industry.

CHA provides a multitude of resources and benefits for its members.  CHA holds two award-winning trade events each year, the Craft & Hobby Association Conference & Trade Shows. Usually held in January and July these events are the oldest and largest craft and hobby trade shows in the world.  CHA offers members a wide range of research studies including the CHA Attitude and Usage Study.  This study provides such valuable information as the size of the industry, sales by distribution channel and craft participation by category.  It also offers its members a variety of exclusive benefits from networking opportunities, discounts and trade news and trends.  Additionally, CHA is actively involved in national promotional events designed to generate excitement about crafting and to highlight the many emotional benefits it produces. It also hosts a consumer website, www.craftplace.org, for crafters to connect with other crafters, share projects, ideas, make suggestions, and find inspiration. 

CHA has launched a powerful traditional and social media communications program that’s designed to generate consumer demand and drive retail traffic for craft and hobby supplies/products.  The branding and public relations program generates hundreds of millions of consumer impressions and stimulates seasonal sales of craft products.  As a result, CHA is a leading resource to the general consumer media on the subject of crafts and hobbies.
