CHA Spokesperson Terri Ouellette Represented CHA at the 31st Annual Japan Hobby Show
In Tokyo this May, CHA continued its ongoing partnership with the Hobby Association of Japan. CHA sponsored scrapbook demonstrations at the recent Japan Hobby Show, as part of a demonstrator exchange program. The exchange promotes new trends and categories overseas while adding a learning opportunity to the CHA Convention and Trade Show.

CHA Spokesperson Terri Ouellette demonstrated basic scrapbooking techniques at the 31st Annual Japan Hobby Show in May, the largest handicraft consumer exhibition in Japan. Terri Ouellette, known as "Terri O", is the national spokesperson for the Craft & Hobby Association. Terri O built her career off the number one morning show in the country for an independent station "Good Morning Arizona". While working as a news anchor and feature reporter Terri O created and produced "Home with Terri O" for which she earned her Emmy. Her current television show, "On the Go with Terri O" is about to embark on national syndication and is currently the number one show on Saturday mornings in Arizona. Terri O is also a featured guest on the network shows from Discovery Channel, HGTV and TLC and host of "Crafting with Terri O" on QVC.

While in Japan, Terri O hosted a total of eight demonstrations over the course of three days and introduced techniques like layering to create dimension, using embellishments like brads, ribbon, pop-ups and rub-ons, and easy one-step page designs. She also brought a gallery of work from other scrapbookers so the attendees could see what we are doing here in the United States. “I fell in love with Japan and the people. Walking the show floor I saw as much passion for crafting as in the United States. Since it was a consumer show as well, I had the chance to see what people were interested in. Everyone, and I mean everyone, had charms on their cell phones so it wasn’t surprising to see that they loved beading and embellishing. Small seems to be what they liked the best. Being that they don’t have very large homes and little space they liked things that were delicate and intricate. Jewelry making, dried flower arranging and small hand stitched items were very popular,” stated Terri.

In addition to the exchange program, CHA presented information about the upcoming 2008 CHA Winter Show to Japan exhibitors in preparation for an expanded Japan Pavilion at the show.

The Japan Hobby Show, with an attendance of over 9,000 consumers, was held at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center May 11 – 13, 2007. For more information on the Japan Hobby Show, log onto www.hobby.or.jp.
