Spotlight on Art Materials for Summer 2007 Convention & Trade Show
|
The Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) will partner with Art Materials Retailer magazine to strengthen and enhance the art materials offerings at the 2007 CHA Summer Convention and Trade Show.
Feedback from CHA show attendee surveys highlighted strong interest in increased art materials resources. Overall, 48 percent of last year's CHA Summer Show attendees wanted to see more art materials at the show. Among chain retailers the percentage was even higher, with 70 percent reporting interest.
CHA and Art Materials Retailer will put the spotlight on this area at the CHA Summer Show. This will include new pre-show and on-site initiatives, including:
• An online product preview and buyers’ guide • Special lounge area on the show floor highlighting new products • Distinctive show signage • Best new product award competition
In addition, CHA and Art Materials Retailer plan to build on these initiatives to significantly expand the art materials section for the CHA Winter 2008 show.
"The industry spoke and we listened,” explains CHA CEO Steve Berger. “We’ve always had a strong representation of art materials at our shows but there’s still much room for growth. We look forward to partnering with Art Materials Retailer to identify new product resources to complement and expand this important section. By joining forces we’ll also have the opportunity to enhance the show’s educational offerings by tapping into the publication’s relationships with art materials industry experts and educators.”
"We look forward to working with CHA to help expand opportunities for retailers of art materials, as well as retailers of crafting supplies and the manufacturers of those products,” adds Kevin Fahy, publisher, Art Materials Retailer. “In today's marketplace, it is vital that niche merchants explore the crossover potential of new lines, and the CHA summer show should be an excellent venue to do so."
For the upcoming Summer 2007 show, CHA and Art Materials Retailer will launch a number of new initiatives, including:
Online Product Preview – Retailers will be able to log on to the CHA website – www.chashow.org– to get an advance look at the art materials products that will be on display at the summer show. A handy resource for pre-show planning, the Online Product Preview will showcase four-color photos of the newest products, complete with product descriptions and the exhibitor’s booth number and contact information.
Art Materials Buyers’ Lounge – A special buyers’ lounge will be prominently featured on the show floor. Offering plenty of seating, free Internet access, complimentary food and beverages, this lounge will also feature a product display highlighting some of the newest art materials on the show floor. Each product will include the company’s booth number so retailers can easily locate it on the show floor. The lounge will also provide a preview of the section’s expansion plans for the Winter 2008 edition.
Art Materials Task Force – CHA will host a special Art Materials Task Force on Sunday, July 22 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The purpose of the task force is to receive input from CHA art materials members on specific seminar and workshop programs they feel will add the most value to their show participation in the future. A complimentary lunch will be served. Members interested in participating in the program should contact Semo Sennas, CHA Marketing Program Manager, at ssennas@craftandhobby.org or 201.794.1133, ext 218.
New Product Award Competition – CHA and Art Materials Retailer will also launch a “Best New Product” Award competition for the category. Exhibitors will have the opportunity to enter their products into the competition and a panel of industry experts will judge them based on key criteria, including design, function, packaging and sell-through potential.
Special Show Signage and Directory Call-Outs – To help buyers locate the Summer Show’s art materials resources quickly and easily, signage featuring a special Art Materials icon will be prominently displayed in exhibitors’ booths, as well as on banners and signage located throughout the show floor. In addition, these exhibitors will be identified by special call-outs alongside their company listings in the official show directory.
CHA and Art Materials Retailer will also launch a series of e-newsletters, mailings and other promotions to build awareness of Art Materials features at the Summer Show.
